Bereavement and Loss
Grief is a deeply personal experience, varying widely from person to person in its expression and duration. Bereavement counselling offers a safe space where individuals can explore their feelings, process their grief, and begin to find a path forwards. I like to think of it as adjustment rather than acceptance.
The primary goal of bereavement counselling is to help individuals understand and manage the complex emotions associated with loss, such as sadness, anger, guilt, and confusion. I provide a non-judgmental environment where clients can express their emotions freely, without the pressure to “move on” or “be strong” for others. This type of counselling acknowledges that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, and it supports individuals in finding their unique way through the grieving process.
I may use various therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which helps individuals reframe negative thought patterns, or narrative therapy, which allows them to construct and make sense of their grief story.
Ultimately, bereavement and loss counselling aims to help you honour your loss while gradually rebuilding a sense of normality and hope. It is a compassionate, client-centered approach that supports healing at a pace that feels right for you.
